Looking back on 2017 I was very fortunate to have such an incredible year. I hiked Trolltunga in Norway, visited multiple countries, and spent yet another birthday in Iceland. While I was home I did a lot for my family that I am proud of and continued to grow Sailor's Box into the success story it has become. It is crucial to remind yourself of the little advancements and goals completed. I read countless books, expanded my mind, refined my health with another year completely plant powered, saw unbelievable sights around the world, and found both spiritual and material success.
I gave to important causes like One Tree Planted, Skateistan, The Ocean Cleanup, and became one of only 200,000 citizens of the Trash Isles; an international ocean clean up petition to the United Nations. Another year planting hundreds of trees with One Tree Planted gives me the most joy. A great year meeting all my goals and taking my life and my positive impact higher.
Moving into 2018, my goals are to simplify my life even more. Making the move into the van life converting a Volkswagen Eurovan into the ultimate campervan. I have been dreaming of taking another cross-continent road trip for quite some time now. Driving around north east Canada in 2016, then driving around Europe in 2017 has been a huge inspiration to go across the US and Canada again. My motivation is to revisit many of the national parks and best known natural sights of the US and Canada, including Alaska. This journey will be a whole new challenge and a completely life changing experience. I'll also be using my road trip to promote my TreePerMile fundraiser to plant one tree per mile I drive.
After spending the entire summer living the van life I intend to return to Portland, Maine and live on Peaks Island for the fall and winter. Work on a new sailboat project, focus on growing Sailor's Box even more, move the business into an office space in Portland, and chase the next adventure that inspires me.
